There are a lot of different things we take into consideration. The most important information we have in a file is going to be a student's academic performance. There's not one specific thing we look for in an applicant. We're also curious in terms of their activities in high school and what their teachers say. We're looking for students who have taken a broad range of challenging courses in high school and who have done well in those courses. What advice do you have for students who might fall short of the minimum requirements, but still want to attend? We don't have any minimum requirements for admissions. Mt recommendation is for students to continue to work hard and do the best they can do in their course work and involvement outside of class. What advice do you have for applicants? Be yourself in the application process. We want to make sure you're academically qualified to be here and we want to make sure we're bringing in a diverse class. We're looking for a diversity in thought. You want to make sure your application is a reflection of who you are and the things you've accomplished. How does Yale weigh GPA, SAT scores, extracurricular act ivies, recommendations and the college essay during the application process? We have a very holistic process. All of those things factor into our decision. What is the student teacher ration? 7:1 What is the University's housing situation like? Is it difficult for freshmen and sophomore to get housing? Freshmen are guaranteed housing and you are guaranteed housing for all four years. We have a "residential college system.†When students are admitted you are assigned to a residential college for all four years. It's designed to be a microcosm of the University. They create a smaller sense of community within a larger university. Each of them houses 400-450 students. Is there an interview process for admissions? There is an interview process, it's optional for admissions. Applicants can go about setting up an interview two ways. You can request to do an interview on campus during the summer before your senior year or during the fall of your senior year. We also have an alumni interview process. It's arranged after the student has applied. Because it's not a requirement we don't look upon it moiré favorably. We do encourage students to do the interview because it will give us more background that we can see about the student.
