Carla A. Harris to Inspire Female Leaders at Black Enterprise Women of Power Summit

Like attracts like. And when that attracting energy is one of power, the combined forces of excellence create the positive glow of radiance — also known as the Women of Power Summit. This year’s summit includes as keynote speakers the amazing Mellody Hobson; the inspiration for Scandal, Judy Smith; and the first African American female combat pilot, Vernice “Flygirl” Armour. Along with shining awardees like Beverly Daniel Tatum, Ph.D., and Charlayne Hunter-Gault, registrations are rolling in at a higher pace than in years past.

Just added to the list: Carla A. Harris. Appointed by President Barack Obama in 2013 as chair of the National Women’s Business Council, Harris is one of the country’s leading business experts in finance and global investment. Before her political post, she was vice chairman of Wealth Management and senior client advisor at Morgan Stanley. No stranger to accolades, the Harvard University economics major and Harvard Business School alum is a regular on the media acknowledgement circuit. She was on Fortune’s “50 Most Powerful Black Executives in Corporate America” list; and Essence

magazine’s “50 Women Who Are Shaping the World” list. And she’s graced the pages of Black Enterprise as one of the “50 Most Powerful Women in Business.” Involved in numerous community organizations focused on uplifting and empowering others, Harris has also written a book. Expect to Win: 10 Proven Strategies for Thriving in the Workplace hit bookstores in 2010. It offers advice on how to climb the corporate ladder and survive on the job. “Carla’s Pearls” are gems taken
from the book that she includes in many of her speeches and television appearances. They include “The Mentor, The Sponsor, The Adviser: Having Them All,” “Expect to Win: Show Up with Your Best Self Every Day,” and “Authenticity: The Power Is You.”

It is this authentic, natural need to give back and provide the empowerment needed in the world, especially among women, that makes Harris an exciting addition to the Women of Power Summit. She, among so many others, is not to be missed March 2-5 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 2015.
