An unidentified woman managed to infiltrate a Waffle House donning the disguise of an employee before making off with cash from the register.
An unidentified woman managed to infiltrate a Waffle House in Clayton County, donning the disguise of an employee before making off with an undisclosed amount of cash. The incident unfolded on Dec. 12, 7 p.m., at the Waffle House located on Highway 85 in Riverdale, prompting a search by Riverdale police.
The imposter’s audacious maneuver involved assuming a role within the Waffle House establishment. After two hours on the pseudo-payroll, surveillance footage revealed the woman accessing the cash register, executing a calculated theft right under the unsuspecting noses of patrons and genuine staff.
Detective Mendoza of the Riverdale Police Department issued a statement urging the community’s assistance in identifying and locating the alleged perpetrator.
“We are actively seeking any information that could lead us to the whereabouts of the suspect. The swift resolution of this case is crucial to maintaining the integrity of our community and ensuring the safety of our local businesses.”
While the exact sum stolen from the register remains undisclosed, authorities are treating the incident with the utmost seriousness, emphasizing the need for the public’s cooperation. Detective Mendoza can be reached directly at 770-996-3382 for individuals with relevant information or those able to identify the woman involved.
This isn’t the only incident at a Waffle House this year.
In July 2023, employees at a Columbia, South Carolina, branch walked out, protesting working conditions and demanding improved safety measures and fair wages.
Concerns voiced by the workers include the need for more frequent on-site security, regulated scheduling, and the suspension of mandatory check deductions for meals, whether consumed or not during shifts. The demand for enhanced security arises from a series of incidents, including fights and shootings, plaguing Waffle Houses across the southern region, a situation highlighted by The New York Times. Parker insists that there is “no excuse” for the lack of security at the restaurant, emphasizing the importance of creating a safe working environment.
