WNBA Player Tina Charles Donates Half Her Salary to Charity

You don’t have to be a millionaire to give back. New York Liberty Center Tina Charles is proving just that by donating half of her salary to a charity she started. Hopey’s Heart Foundation, which she started to honor an aunt who died of multiple organ failure last year, will be the beneficiary of her efforts.

According to ESPN, although her salary is only $100,000, she’s going donate approximately $50,000. Charles has already raised $48,000 for the foundation to purchase 100 automatic external defibrillators (AEDS).

“It means everything. When I started with this foundation I just wanted something to be in my aunt’s name,” Charles said. “I see it as the more AEDs out there we can help combat sudden cardiac arrest. The more AEDs out there the better chance people will have.”
