On Saturday night, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton surprised guests at the Inner Circle Dinner in New York City, and things got real awkward, real fast.

Sharing the stage with Hamilton

actor, Leslie Odom Jr., and New York City Mayor, Bill de Blasio, Clinton joked about de Blasio’s finally endorsing her campaign.

“Thanks for the endorsement, Bill,” Clinton said. “Took you long enough.”

“Sorry, Hillary,” de Blasio replied. “I was running on C.P. time.”

Stilted laughter can be heard from audience members as Leslie Odom Jr. cut in to say “That’s not, I don’t like jokes like that, Bill.”

Clinton came back with “Cautious politician time … ,” which was apparently supposed to be the punchline of the ill-delivered joke.

Twitter had a field day with this one, while Rembert Browne of NY Magazine penned this hilarious reaction.
