The video service announced via Twitter that it now has more th

an 40 million registered users–a significant increase from the 30 million users the service reported in early June. It’s been almost a year since Twitter acquired  Vine and the short-video-taking app continues to prove that it’s a viable social platform, despite healthy competition from Instagram video and other services that preceded it like Viddy and Kik.

Many thought the app, which allows users to create six second videos, would

become a thing of the past when Instagram announced users would be able to shoot 15-second videos with its new video offering.  However, Vine continues to serve as a leader in the short-video market.
