Computer Love: Creating Tech Career Pathways
Michael Ellison overcame an incarcerated parent and childhood homelessness to pursue computer science in a college classroom where no one looked like him or could relate to his life experiences. Many years later, he co-founded and is CEO of CodePath, one of the largest organizations in the country which educates and places students from low-income and underrepresented backgrounds into the most competitive software engineering roles globally, having served over 26,000 students across 100+ colleges and universities, including HBCUs. CodePath recently partnered with JPMorgan Chase, which donated $1M to HBCU Florida University to help with train faculty and expand the number of students pursuing computer engineering.
