Veteran’s Day Alert: Baruch College Designated a Military Friendly School
Veterans, take note. Baruch College, one of the schools in the City University of New York, has been designated a 2016 Military Friendly School by Victory Media, which connects the military and civilian worlds through publications like G.I. Jobs, STEM Jobs, and Military Spouse. The Military Friendly School designation provides service members and their families with transparent, data-driven ratings about post-military education and career opportunities.
The Military Friendly Schools designation is awarded to the top colleges, universities, community colleges, and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military students, and to dedicate resources to ensure their success both in the classroom and after graduation. Baruch College will be showcased along with other 2016 Military Friendly Schools in the annual Guide to Military Friendly Schools, special education issues of G.I. Jobs and Military Spouse Magazine, and on MilitaryFriendly.com.
“At Baruch College we pride ourselves on supporting our military veterans and other nontraditional students as they bring their skills and life experience into our academic setting,†said Art King, dean of students at Baruch College. “We’re pleased to have made the list of Military Friendly Schools for the first time. We currently have 175 student veterans, and we want all the men and women who have served our country to know that they are welcome at Baruch College, and that we’re committed to helping them integrate, transition, and thrive.â€
Baruch is one of the 256 campus-based colleges to make the list. Institutions competed for the Military Friendly School designation by completing a survey of more than 100 questions covering 10 categories, including military support on campus, graduation and employment outcomes, and military spouse policies. Survey responses were scored against benchmarks across these key indicators of success. In addition, data was independently tested by Ernst & Young based on the weightings and methodology established by Victory Media with guidance from an independent Advisory Board of higher education and recruiting professionals. A full list of board members can be found at https://militaryfriendly.com/advisory-board/.
Baruch College has a total enrollment of more than 18,000 students, who represent 164 countries and speak more than 129 languages. Ranked among the top 15% of U.S. colleges and the No. 4 public regional university, Baruch College is regularly recognized as among the most ethnically diverse colleges in the country. As a public institution with a tradition of academic excellence, Baruch College offers accessibility and opportunity to students from every corner of New York City and from around the world.
