Cinephiles, also known as lovers of film, should be familiar with Menelik Shabazz and his work. The genius filmmaker behind Burning an Illusion and publisher (Black Filmmakers Magazine) is a legend in contemporary British cinema.
The 61-year-old creator and educator has just released word on his latest film, entitled Looking for Love
. Interestingly enough, he’s chosen to follow a similar path embarked by fellow filmmaker Spike Lee, and is asking his audience to help crowdfund the project. What is it about, you wonder? Looking for Love attempts to look at and break down the intricacies of black love and relationships. Shabazz questions the nature of why unions between men and women are in such a sorry state. He peels back the curtain and offers some real thought provoking discussion as to how relationships dwindled to such a low, and how can we make things better.
With the film now in post-production, Shabazz has turned to Indiegogo to raise about $28,000 to complete his film for theatrical release next year. According to the filmmaker, himself, he believes that Looking for Love
will be part of “a movement, a social shift that is transforming, empowering and healing communities.†You can decide for yourself after looking at the Indiegogo campaign video below.SOURCE: Shadow And Act
