This week on The Urban Business Roundtable, Joi C. Weathers chats with Philip Freelon, founder and CEO of The Freelon Group, an architecture firm located in Durham, North Carolina. The firm specializes in design for public libraries, museums, corporate offices, and university buildings.
Freelon served as co-designer of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C. Some of his other projects include the Museum of African Diaspora, and the Center for Civil and Human Rights. The Freelon Group has also been the recipient of numerous awards including seven AIA North Carolina design awards. Contract magazine also recognized the firm as Designer of the Year. In 2011, Freelon was appointed by President Obama to the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts. He stops by The Urban Business Roundtable to share how he found success.
