This week on The Urban Business Roundtable, in time for Women’s History Month, UBR contributor Samantha Pass speaks with women’s history maker Regina Brooks, the first African American editor of the college division for publishing giant John Wiley and Sons who would go on to found Brooklyn-based Serendipity Literary Agency, named one of the top 25 literary agencies in the country by Writer’s Digest Magazine.
Brooks began her career as an aerospace engineer, before shifting to her interest in publishing and the literary world, eventually launching Serendipity. The agency has represented and established a diverse base of award-winning clients in adult and young adult
fiction, nonfiction and children’s literature. In 2010, Brooks was named Woman of the Year by the National Association of Professional Women and was awarded the Rising Star Award by the New York Urban League. She joins the Roundtable to share how a simple change of heart led her to business and professional success. Also, UBR contributor contributor Renita D. Young speaks with Glinda Bridgforth, CEO of Bridgforth Financial & Associates and the author of Girl, Get Your Money Straight: A Sister’s Guide to Healing Your Bank Account and Funding Your Dreams in 7 Simple Steps (Broadway). Bridgforth stops by the Roundtable to share strategies to set your goals and finance your dreams.
And finally, every week on UBR, you’ll hear my “Alfred’s Notepad” segment, get motivation and inspiration from author and entrepreneurial icon Farrah Gray, a weekly wrap-up of business news from USA Today business correspondent Charisse Jones, our Patient Investor Report from Ariel Investments and key economic intelligence for small business owners from our UBR economists Derrick Collins and Rasheed Carter.
