Are you living the life you desire? Or are you just existing and really desire more? Life is short, and there is so much many of us want to accomplish before we leave this Earth. I recently turned 38-years-old, and as I begin to reflect on my life, I realized there is so much I haven’t even begun to experience yet.
In my coaching programs, I encourage women to go after their dreams and to show up bigger in the world. However, I also know there have always been things that I’ve wanted myself that I hadn’t yet begun to fully embrace. It took a traumatic situation experienced by my son for me to realize this and see that I could no longer let fear hold me back from moving forward.
Relocating to Florida had always been a dream of me and my husband, but we were fearful–scared of stepping into this new territory. However, we also knew that we never wanted to live a life filled with regrets, so we decided to take the leap, relocating to Jacksonville, Florida. It’s been exciting, and we are looking forward to making some new memories here.
I want to share with you five reasons why we took this leap and relocated to our dream destination. Hopefully, my advice will encourage you to do the same:
1. Life is Short
We all know tomorrow is not promised to us, and we don’t know how much time we have. I have learned to live life like it’s my last day, and to go after every dream and desire like there’s no tomorrow. If you desire to experience a different state, go for it! If you’re waiting on someone’s approval you’ll never get it, so take a chance and live life on your own terms.
2. Expand Your Network
If you’re anything like me, you like to meet new people. So, if you’re looking to expand your network and grow your influence, don’t limit yourself to one state. Don’t put yourself in a box, but instead, be willing to create new relationships. When you expand your network, your net-worth will expand, as well, so don’t get comfortable in your town or state and be willing to position yourself on a global level.
3. A Lifestyle of Freedom
Did you know that less is really more? I grew up in Chicago, so I have always been accustomed to the fast-paced city lifestyle. As I’ve grown older, I’ve realized I enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere. It doesn’t take a party every weekend or attending everyone’s event, for me to feel fulfilled, and all that sort of lifestyle was exhausting for me. It also took time away from my family. After traveling and experiencing new places, I knew I wanted less hustle-and-bustle and more serenity, peace, and relaxation. Relocating is all about having the freedom to create the lifestyle you desire.
4. Opportunities for Growth
I’m always looking for ways to grow in my business and in my career. I never want to get too comfortable and be stagnant in what I want to accomplish.
Relocating gives you the opportunity to grow, because you can expand your business to new territory, which will ultimately allow you to reach more people and make more money. Making the move will also expose you to new career opportunities in your field. This will allow you to bring your expertise to a new market, and in turn, will set you up for global growth and financial gain.
5. Create Experiences
While it’s nice to have a fancy car or house, but the reality is you can’t take a thing with you when die. Creating experiences for you and your family is what’s important. My husband and I wanted to create an environment where our children could enjoy the beach regularly. We yearned to be able to drive down the coast and stop off at a little island on the weekends, without hesitation. Our goal was to create a life of experiences, not stuff.
My coach, Monique Caradine-Kitchens, a well known media personality from Chicago, IL, relocated to Humacao, Puerto Rico, a few
years back. I remember her saying how much she enjoyed the peace there. It wasn’t until I went to visit her multiple times that I fully understood what she meant. After experiencing the beautiful palm trees, the endless beaches, and the bright beaming sun, I knew I wanted more of that, in order create a life for my family that we would all remember forever. Monique showed me it was possible, and I could go after this dream.Creating memories is what’s important to me, and I plan to do just that in Florida–the Sunshine State, and my new home.
