When it comes to career choice, the decision can be long, difficult and stressful. It can also be one filled with changes and professional detours. People have various reasons for choosing the industry they work within or the job they have, from financial stability to upward mobility.
Some reasons are healthy and valid, while other only lead to long-term unfulfillment and burnout. Brazen Careerist contributor Josh Weiss-Roessler offers up four terrible reasons to choose a profession. They include the following:
- Everyone says you’re good at it.
- It’s what you’re “supposed†to do.
- You like the perks.
- Your friends are doing it.
“Imagine yourself in potential careers one, five or even 10 years down the line and think about what a regular day for you will be like,” Weiss-Roessler further writes. “Ultimately, the most important thing is that you feel happy and fulfilled in your work.
