Working Moms & Dads-on-Duty: How to Balance Demands of Parenting and Career
Balancing the requirements of work and a family can be challenging. Doing it well can be a whole other story. Whether you’re a housewife who manages a household along with mommyhood or a family man who makes corporate boss moves by day and takes on daddy duty by night, finding ways to maximize your time is important.
Some experts have said there’s no such thing as perfect balance, or being able to do it all and be it all to your boss, coworkers and children, but you can maximize your time as a parent to avoid stress and burnout.
Fortune contributor Anne Fisher offers some pretty savvy ways to help you keep it all in check without losing your sanity. She writes:
1. Stop multitasking. Instead of trying to do several things at once, plan your day so that you have blocks of time (even if they’re only 10 or 15 minutes long) where you are working exclusively on one thing. “Because I was able to give 100 percent to whatever I was focused on — managing my blocks of time without multitasking — I was more effective at my job than I had ever been before,” Taylor writes.
