Tiffany Haddish’s acting gigs might have dried up, but she’s still hungry and plans to keep working and being a philanthropist.
Haddish has shared her story about homelessness across platforms and how hard she worked to become a leading actress in Hollywood. Now, her success allows her to give back to her community.
According to Forbes, Haddish has set her sights on building a grocery store to grow her community and create more opportunities in South Central Los Angeles.
“I want to be a grocer,” Haddish shared. “I want to grow my community.
Haddish shared that as a native of South Central, opening a grocery store is her approach to solving systemic racism. Understanding how money works and practicing better eating habits makes her feel like a stronger and more productive human being, which she can extend to her family and community.
“I’ve been learning about the history of Black people when it comes to money and the disparities that we have suffered and what we don’t learn about it and do learn about it and what they’ve done with food and all these different things,” she said.
The actress revealed her project would get money circulating in her community by ensuring that most of her vendors are Black and minority. Working with farmers from all over the world and creating financial literacy classes and cooking classes for area residents are also in the plans.
The movie star shared her story of growing up in a food desert and how people in her community were not privy to how to use grocery store products.
“Grocery stores never teach you how to use their products and I guess you’re supposed to already know because you’ve been eating all your life, right? But if you grow up in my community, in a food desert, you’re not necessarily going to know,” she added.
She believes her methods regarding business matters continue to evolve as she becomes more successful.
“I’m definitely more aggressive when it comes to business, as far as saying like what I want, what I’m going to need to be able to do what I do. I make bigger investments now,” she said.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Haddish’s net worth in 2022 is $6 million.
The blockbuster movie star reportedly incorporated ‘Diaspora Groceries’ on March 16, 2021, to represent people who have been removed from their native land.
