“No American should be prevented from enrolling in and graduating from college because of money. Sadly, that is a reality for many HBCU students,” said TMCF President & CEO Johnny C. Taylor Jr., in a statement. “This innovative partnership with GoFundMe makes ordinary people extraordinary philanthropists, through their online giving platform now used to help deserving HBCU students pay for their college education.”

GoFundMe CEO Rob Solomon is quoted as saying in a statement, “We are proud to partner with Thurgood Marshall College Fund and help HBCU students pay for college. Thousands of students have turned to GoFundMe to help pay for college, and with college tuition on the rise, it’s more important than ever to help support students pursuing their higher education. This new partnership will make it simpler and easier for HBCU students to get the financial support they need to thrive at college.”

New TMCF Fundraising Hub

GoFundMe has created a new TMCF fundraising hub

, which will be a resource for students, their families, their communities, and other supporters. By using the TMCF hub, GoFundMe donors can easily find students who attend HBCUs to support. The hub will also provide tips and tools that students and their families need to run a successful campaign.

So far, GoFundMe and TMCF have launched six GoFundMe campaigns for students attending Howard University, Fayetteville State, Norfolk State, and South Carolina State. You can make a contribution or start a GoFundMe campaign by visiting the TMCF fundraising hub here: www.gofundme.com/tmcf.

“The students

featured on the fundraising hub are identified and selected by TMCF,” says a GoFundMe spokesman. “This fundraising hub connects potential donors across the nation and around the world directly with HBCU students identified by TMCF. It’s a centralized location for donors to support students and an easy way to make a financial contribution with just a few clicks.”

TMCF will work directly with each student to provide fundraising tips and support their campaign to get it up and running.

TMCF is leveraging technology in the charitable giving space. In a statement, GoFundMe says, “For 30 years, TMCF has been raising money to support HBCUs and students across the country. What’s different today is the ability to help just about anyone in the world in just a few clicks—and GoFundMe’s social fundraising platform does just that. For the first time, TMCF is making it possible for anyone to quickly raise funds to pay for college online. In minutes, you can donate to or create a GoFundMe campaign, share it on social media, and encourage your online networks to do the same.”
