The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many entrepreneurs to come up with creative strategies in order to stay afloat. During this time, two sisters found a way to deliver their plant-based ice cream to customers around the country.
Founded by Courtney Blagrove and Zan B.R, Whipped Urban Dessert Lab is a Black women-owned company that specializes in creamy, vegan, gluten-free, and indulgent oat milk soft serve. The company opened its
first shop in Brooklyn, NY in 2019 before relocating to Lower Manhattan last year. However, like many other small businesses, the founders looked for new ways to keep their operations going through the pandemic. The duo announced on their Instagram page that they partnered with online retailer Goldbelly to deliver their signature oat mile nationwide. The entrepreneurs are recognized for opening the world’s first oat milk-based soft-serve shop. After experiencing their own fair share of health issues concerning food allergies, the founders were inspired to create their own health-conscious dessert that they could enjoy without guilt or negative side effects.
“Most frozen dairy-free dessert options were nut or coconut-based and did not deliver on the taste or texture of traditional dairy ice cream options,” said co-founder Courtney Blagrove in a press statement sent to BLACK ENTERPRISE
. “The goal was to create an indulgent frozen dessert using oat milk that even dairy lovers couldn’t resist. We have developed an exceptional product that has quickly gained a following and we are truly changing the way people think and feel, about non-dairy ice cream.”The new Urban Dessert Lab oat milk-based soft serve collection called Oate comes in five different flavors, including, Strawberry Shortcake, Mint Chocolate Cookie, Cinnamon Apple Crisp, Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie, and Classic Chocolate.
