The streets of St. Louis are running rampant with strong emotions, as the weight of a recent shooting at the hands of a police officer takes hold of the city. Eighteen-year-old Michael Brown, a black teen and recent high school graduate, was fatally shot near his grandmother’s home. The still-developing story has racial tinges reminiscent of Trayvon Martin’s 2012 death and Renisha McBride’s 2013 attack . The victim’s grandmother found his body in the street after it laid lifeless for more than an hour.
According to the Associated Press, a spokesman for the St. Louis County Police Department confirmed that a Ferguson police officer shot the man, but with no further details on why the shooting occurred, it has left the black community searching for answers.
