Tameka Raymond, a celebrity wardrobe stylist and cast member of VH1’s Celebrity Exes, is leading a multicity Style Theory Tour. Raymond, along with a team of beauty experts, aim to empower attendees by giving them the tools to excel as a beauty professional. This interactive workshop tour, which kicked off Jan. 17 in Atlanta and ends May 30 in Chicago, offers exclusive insight for both men and women on the dos and don’ts of fashion, beauty and style. Other stops include Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas, New York and more.
Below, Raymond discusses what attendees can expect, her inspiration and her advice for future professionals.
On her fashion career and expertise:
“I attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, and from there I began my career as a dresser for the Giorgio Armani Fashion Shows,” Raymond says. “Over the past two decades I’ve styled Patti Labelle, Lauryn Hill, Jay-Z, Toni Braxton, Chris Brown, Mary J. Blige, Usher, and Ciara, just to name a few. Styling is more than just being someone’s personal shopper, it requires capturing their vision, understanding their fan base, and translating it into looks.â€
On what inspired her to start the tour:
“I held my first Style Theory Workshop in Atlanta, GA back in October, and the turnout was great, and I really enjoyed speaking to the students as well as the additional attendees,” she says. “I have been in the fashion industry for over 20 years, and I thought back to questions that I had, and how I wished I had someone to answer them. Now, with my Style Theory Tour, I can answer those questions for other people, as well as give them new methods to consider. The Style Theory Tour is a 360-degree workshop that consists of 4 areas: lifestyle, makeup, hair and fashion styling. The purpose of this workshop is to help people find their style while on their quest to become the total package.â€
On what can attendees expect:
“There is something in it for everyone. At the beginning of the workshop we have a lifestyle/motivational speaker that discusses the importance of having confidence and understanding that true beauty begins within,” Raymond says. “Next, we have a master makeup artist who teaches the importance of proper makeup application, and gives the dos and don’ts of applying makeup. Following makeup, we have a master hairstylist who educates the audience on healthy hair and protective styling. Finally, I conduct the fashion portion, I address styling in the industry, as well as staple items you need in your personal closet. The workshop will last for 7 hours with a 30-minute break for lunch, live DJ, and photos. The attendees will also receive a t-shirt, gift bag, a copy of my new book, ‘White Bras and 101 Other Style Faux Pas,’ and the opportunity to participate in our live demonstration.
The Style Theory tour will show attendees how to make memorable and positive first and lasting impressions. It will equip them with essential etiquette and refined knowledge necessary to polish your personal brand. Upon completion of this dynamic and empowering program, you will have the confidence and personal presentation to make a great lasting impression, and be skillfully polished in your interactions with others.â€
Advice she has for future style mavens:
“Be persistent and invest in yourself. Before anyone else will invest in you, you must first invest in yourself. Stay current, but never too trendy.â€
