Rice “has emerged as far and away the front-runner,” a source told the Washington Post.

Susan Rice was said to be

the Obama’s first choice for Secretary of State, but withdrew her name after strong opposition from Republicans in the Senate. The national security adviser’s post, though not as influential as Secretary of State, would still give Rice heavy influence over foreign policy decisions but would not require her to undergo Senate confirmation.
