Recently, someone tweeted me, asking, “Is It okay to wear a hat to work?” The answer is yes and no. I think it all depends on your office and the type of environment you work in. Wearing one in a creative and carefree environment, sure, but in corporate and financial settings, probably not not a good idea. But while it may be okay for some and not for others, one thing is for sure, everyone can wear a hat to work.
I work in a creative field, so I fall on the yes side, but I get that it can be a little weird wearing a hat while working. That hasn’t stopped me from donning the latest hot hat on my commute to work and paring it with different coats. I love it. There’s something about adding a fly fedora to your outerwear that makes you stand out from the crowd. It’s an accessory that makes a statement of confidence. Whenever I wear hats, people definitely notice. It makes a statement and has some people secretly asking themselves if they too can carry it off.
The answer is a resounding yes. Really, anyone can wear a hat. It’s just about finding the right fit for you.
Retailers across the country offer hats in a variety of styles that stand out from the mundane. The key is to just go into a store and try a few on to see what suits your face and head. Experiment.
The next time you’e getting ready to head off to work, top off your look with a hat. It’s OK if you can’t wear it in the office. How you arrive to the Style Suite is equally important as how you work the suite itself.
