Social Media Gurus: You Can Now Switch Between Instagram Accounts

Instagram announced that its users can now add up to five Instagram accounts and switch between them without the need to log out and back into Instagram.

Adding an additional account requires going to profile settings, tapping “Add Account,” and creating a username and password. To switch accounts, go to your profile, tap your username at the top of the screen and simply tap the account you want to switch to.

The switching accounts feature is only available in version 7.15 for iOS and Android. Also, when adding multiple accounts, you will receive push notifications for each account, something that could likely get quite annoying (push notifications can be turned on and off via profile settings for each account, though).

Social media and marketing professionals, overall, seem pleased with the announcement, many noting it’s about time for Instagram to roll out the multi-account switching feature.

In a blog post, Nigerian marketing and interactive media manager, Confidence Tawo, weighed in on the feature:

“Well, this is big news for everyone who manages multiple Instagram accounts. Personally, I manage both my personal IG account and my food blog’s IG account (@longathroat). Before now, I’ve had to turn to third-party applications to enable me to manage all my accounts. With Instagram clamping down on Third Party applications and shutting most out by June this year, this new feature deserves a round of applause.”

“On the flip side, though, it’s now easier for lily-livered people to throw hate comments around or diss people with their fake secondary accounts.”
