On Oct. 4, blogger and YouTube personality Jouelzy hosted the #SmartBrownGirl event in New York, gathering young power women in media, education, and communications to empower and inspire. The author, commentator, and natural haircare advocate has a growing following of more than 150,000 who enjoy her humor, honesty, and confidence in talking about issues including confidence, equality, beauty, and career motivation.
The panel of speakers for the event featured five successful African American female leaders including Jouelzy:
Jovian Irvin, director of talent recruitment at Teach for America; Zoe Zeigler, executive director of ColorComm Network; Kimberly Foster, publisher and founder of ForHarriet.com; and Black Enterprise Associate Managing Editor Janell Hazelwood.The panel discussed the theme, “How to be Vulnerable in the Face of the Strong Black Woman Archetype.†Throughout the event, the women leaders talked about relationships, career development, self-awareness, and professional branding.
