This week on The Urban Business Roundtable, UBR Contributor Renita D. Young talks with Sundra L. Ryce, the CEO of SLR Contracting and Service Co. Based in Buffalo, N.Y., the general construction company–specializing in commercial construction, management and design build services–earned revenues of $29.8 million in 2010 to land at No. 87 on the Black Enterprise 100s list of the nation’s largest Black-owned industrial/service companies.
SLR Construction, named by Black Enterprise among the top companies to watch in 2011, was ranked in the top 10 among general contractor by Buffalo Business First magazine. Last year, a celebrated business leader and motivational speaker, Ryce was honored with Woman of Distinction Award by the New York State Executive Chamber. She is also a board member of the Buffalo Urban Development Corp.
Also, UBR Contributor Jason Smith speaks with Asha Tyson, the author of How I Retired At 26!: A Step-by-Step Guide to Accessing Your Freedom and Wealth at Any Age (ATD Publishing). An acclaimed speaker who has been invited to boardrooms of companies including Microsoft and Pepsi, Tyson sheds light on how to get control of your life and of your earning power at any age.
In addition, in my “Alfred’s Notepad” segment, I talk the key difference between social media marketing and traditional marketing, and why business owners must be personally engaged in their company’s social media strategy and brand messaging, even if they delegate the task of executing it to others.
And finally, every week on UBR, you’ll get motivation and inspiration from author and entrepreneurial icon Farrah Gray, a weekly wrap-up of business news from USA Today business correspondent Charisse Jones, our Patient Investor Report from Ariel Investments and key economic intelligence for small business owners from our UBR economists Derrick Collins and Rasheed Carter.
