For Black History Month this year, the Trinity Lutheran School in Hawthorne, California is requiring their fifth grade class to replicate slavery in the South.
The five page project details ways to free slaves, collect bounties, find safe houses, and provide jobs for the escaped slaves in the North.
The school has a white teacher playing the role of the slave master and the slaves are four black dolls that they must help escape to
the North which is an administrators office. A parent of one the students described the doll as varying degrees of black with the darker doll being the highest of priority to “free.” Trina Burton, the parent, forbade her daughter to participate in the project.Read more at Los Angeles Wave
