The spread of COVID-19, or the novel coronavirus, has put the country into self-quarantine to protect citizens from contracting the virus. As a result, the CDC has advised people to wear face masks whenever they are outside. This week, tennis star, Serena Williams, announced that she will be making a massive donation of needed face masks for children as schools reopen.
The Grand Slam champion told her followers on Instagram
that she will be working with t-shirt manufacturer Bella+Canvas, the National School Board Association, and educational brand Scholastic to donate over 4 million face masks to schools across the United States. The new partnership will also provide materials for the classroom to over 100,000 schools for 54 million children as a new school semester looms.“I’m grateful to be able to help educate our schools about this
resource, and to be given the opportunity to serve so many students,” Williams wrote in a social media post. The announcement comes as schools around the country scramble to figure out how they will reopen with a recent spike in cases among young children within the last month.
