Sens. Kennedy, Byrd Fall Ill at Luncheon

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Massachusetts) suffered a seizure at a post-inauguration luncheon for President Barack Obama and was taken by ambulance to a hospital. There was no immediate word from on his condition.

“It looked like a seizure,” said Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah).

Kennedy, 76, is battling a brain tumor. He had appeared in good health when he greeted President Barack Obama at the lunch. Kennedy has had seizures because of the tumor.

Sen. Robert C. Byrd, 91, also was taken from the luncheon but it was not clear whether his departure was prompted by his health.
