California Congresswoman Maxine Waters was quick and swift with ther thoughts on Black men and women who vote for President Donald Trump in the 2020 election.
“Any of them showing their face, I will never ever forgive them for undermining the possibility to help their own people and their own communities. It is absolutely unconscionable,” Rep. Waters said on SiriusXM’s The Joe Madison Show.
Waters went on to slam the president for dividing the country and his response to the coronavirus pandemic, which has left more than 220,000 dead.
“The divisiveness that this deplorable
human being has caused, the confrontation, the dog-whistling to the right-wing, the white supremacists, the KKK, and they’re coming alive,” she added. “They’re emboldened because they’ve got a leader who wants them to do it. What did he say to the Proud Boys? Stand back and stand ready? Ready for what—confrontation? Give me a break, Joe. I thank you. I know you’re on it, doing everything that you can. We’ve got to shout it from the rooftops—vote, vote, vote.”During his time as president, Trump has either sidestepped or refused to condemn white supremacists on numerous occasions
, pressured the NFL into essentially banning Colin Kaepernick for his police brutality protest, and called the Black Lives Matter mural a symbol of hate.Despite the above, several Black musicians have endorsed Trump in recent weeks, including Lil Wayne and 50 Cent, although he has since reversed course. Another rapper, Ice Cube, received backlash for meeting with Jared Kushner to discuss his Contract for Black America. Cube responded by saying the Trump campaign was willing to meet with him but Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s campaign did not want to meet with him until after the election.
According to REVOLT, Madison brought up a Sun Sentinel article saying Black men and women can tip the state in Democrats favor. Waters responded saying Black Americans who vote for Trump will be remembered in the history books.
“They will go down in history as having done the most despicable thing to their families and to their communities and to their mothers and their grandmothers,” Waters responded. “Because this man is about doing away with Social Security as we know it. And their grandmothers who are sitting there waiting on those Social Security checks every month or they couldn’t eat.”
Waters added her thoughts on Trump calling him a racist and those who try to align himself with them will regret that day.
“He’s a racist. He does not have any appreciation for Black people, and Black women, in particular, he has talked about us so bad. He talked about John Lewis so bad,” she shared. “He has no respect for us. He’s not doing anything for us. And for those young Black men who think somehow they can align themselves with Trump, not only are they terribly mistaken.”
