Amy Cooper, the white woman who was caught on video calling the police on a Black bird-watcher in New York City’s Central Park and who h ad been charged with filing a false report, made an appearance in court Wednesday. According to CNN, it was revealed that Cooper had called cops a second time, again accusing a Black man, Christian Cooper, of trying to assault her.
The incident occurred five months ago when Cooper called 911 and made an alleged false complaint, saying a Black man identified as Christian Cooper (no relation) was “threatening me and my dog” after he asked her to leash her dog. The two were in a section of Central Park named The Rambles, which has visible signs stating that dogs must be leashed in that particular area.
Making a false report to 911 is a crime in New York and it’s also against the state’s civil rights law. Cooper has not entered a plea and her case was adjourned until Nov. 17.
Amy Cooper is reportedly working on a plea deal to avoid jail time.
