Popeyes Is Louisiana Fast — Minn. and Calif., Fast, Too


Hey, Northern California and Minnesota residents: Love that chicken from Popeyes?

Of course you do. Or, you will.

Both states will soon come to enjoy the pleasure of mass produced Louisiana cookin’ as AFC Enterprises, owner of the popular Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen restaurants makes plans to expand.

The company intends to purchase 28 restaurants and convert them into fast food locations for suitors to franchise. The price for all 28 locations will total $13.8 million.

“The rapid opening of 28 new Popeyes restaurants will give Popeyes a major footprint in places where we currently have almost no presence,” said Cheryl Bachelder, CEO of AFC Enterprises, Inc. in a statement. “We are delighted at this opportunity to accelerate the growth of the Popeyes system and to bring Popeyes’ fresh new image and flavorful food to the people of Minneapolis/St. Paul and Northern California.”

AFC plans to spend $11.5 million to convert the stores, and once the stores are converted they will be leased to potential franchisors creating entrepreneurship and job opportunities in the area.
