Friendship Ignites Breakthrough Television Series ‘The Conversations Project’

A heartwarming narrative of friendship and creative vision has made its mark in television thanks to the collaboration between Marc Spears, ESPN’s senior NBA writer, and David Lawrence, the executive chef at Goodnight’s Prime Steak in Healdsburg, California. Together they’ve turned a casual concept into a groundbreaking TV series: The Conversations Project, which became available for streaming on Hulu as of Oct. 25, as reported by KTVU.

The roots of this venture can be traced back to the welcoming ambiance of Lawrence’s Sonoma abode, where he showcased his culinary artistry while Spears contributed a selection of fine wines. These intimate gatherings provided a fertile ground for a concept that aimed to revolutionize the representation of Black individuals on television.

As Spears noted, “We wanted something drastically different from the negative stereotypes often perpetuated in TV shows. It’s essential to showcase our intelligence and excellence.”

Amid these gatherings, Spears spoke with friends who yearned to explore the world of wine more profoundly. Recognizing a shared enthusiasm for the subject, the friends, who are Black, envisioned a show that could resonate with a broad audience.

Undeterred by their limited connections in the television industry, Spears reached out to streaming service Hulu, whose execs expressed genuine interest in the concept. What began as a pilot episode quickly transformed into a full-season order, culminating in the birth of The Conversations Project as an emblem of intellectual discourse.

The show features diverse Black professionals and celebrities engaging in candid conversations, addressing substantive issues while sharing moments of levity akin to any American dinner party.

Every episode, meticulously crafted to represent the diversity of the Black experience, brings together luminaries such as Dr. Shyne Barrow, the leader of the Opposition Party in the Belize House of Representatives, and Solomon Thomas, defensive tackle for the New York Jets.

One notable focal point for discussion is the N-word, a term that Lawrence, originally from Belize, found unfamiliar before relocating to the United States.

Lawrence reflected, “I wanted to shed light on this aspect of vocabulary, to show that even within our community, perspectives can differ.”

The transition from a casual conversation to a featured show on Hulu has been a surreal journey for Spears and Lawrence, with both confessing their astonishment at the show’s success.

“I’m just a chef!” Lawrence remarked, summing up the remarkable transformation from their initial brainstorming sessions to Hulu’s No. 1-searched show within its first week of release.

With the debut season unfolding, the creators harbor optimism and hope for future seasons. “This is how TV’s made,” said Lawrence, demonstrating that dreams can become a reality with determination and vision.

Attack On Producer, UK, Fugitive of the law

Chris Brown Facing The Music Over Alleged Attack On U.K. Producer, Country Considers Him ‘Fugitive At Law’

Singer Chris Brown may have severed ties with the United Kingdom when he fled the country after being accused of attacking a producer during a stop on his 2023 Under the Influence tour. The victim claims Brown assaulted him with a bottle of tequila at the TAPE nightclub in London on Feb. 19, The Blast reports.

The “Summer Too Hot” singer is now considered a “fugitive at law” for fleeing before he could stand trial for the alleged crime.

The victim, identified in legal documents as Abe Diaw, claims Brown threw a large bottle of Don Julio tequila at his head before “ruthlessly stomping” on him for 30 seconds, resulting in head lacerations and torn ligaments in his leg, according to TMZ. Following the release of details of the incident, Brown is said to have left the United Kingdom and has yet to return. The victim is seeking an undisclosed amount in addition to his hospital and medical expenses, the outlet reports.

The incident was reportedly caught on surveillance video, which Diaw—who says he and Brown have known each other for nearly a decade—claims will corroborate his story.

This comes on the heels of the singer announcing a move away from Los Angeles via Instagram. “L.A. it has been fun,” Brown wrote in his stories. “Cali will always be my second home, but I think it’s time for me to try something different.” The singer has had a sordid history with the City of Angels and the Sunshine State due to several clashes with its justice system, per People. Following Brown’s 2009 attack on pop star and then-girlfriend Rihanna, the singer has appeared in front of the Los Angeles Superior Court on more than five occasions. He was also ordered to serve probation in the city and complete a domestic violence course.

Fans of the singer have attributed his penchant for trouble, especially of the violent variety, to his being an easy target due to “mistakes” made during his younger years; however, others believe his actions represent a pattern of behavior conducive to being considered an abuser.

Sacramento Kings Star De’Aaron Fox Becomes First NBA Player Signed To Steph Curry’s Athletic Brand

Sacramento Kings point guard DeAaron Fox is the first NBA player to sign with Steph Curry’s athletic brand at Under Armour, Yahoo Sports reports.

Fox made the jump to “Curry Brand” after closing out a five-year deal with sports giant Nike. He was first seen sporting Curry Flow 10s during a game last season. However, the 25-year-old All-Star can now officially call the brand home.

Curry broke the news via an Instagram post featuring official photos of the two guards rocking the brand’s logo as well as memorable moments from last season’s first-round playoff clash between the Kings and the Warriors.

“SPLASH!!!! The mission continues.…from 2020 when we launched, to this right here!,” Curry captioned the post. “Another step towards Changing the Game for Good! Welcome to the @currybrand fam @swipathefox 🤝 Let’s get it!”

Though a legendary 50-point Game 7 performance from Curry dashed the Kings playoff dreams, the two guards seem to have no bad blood. The brand also welcomed Fox with another post saying, “Legacy starts with change. Do your thing D. Fox. Welcome to the Family.”

Under Armour established the Steph Curry arm of their sportswear company in 2020, with hopes of rivaling the Jordan Brand established by Nike in 1997, Yahoo Sports reports.

Fox is a huge win for the growing brand as the eyes of the league turn toward the upstart Kings; the team made the playoffs last year for the first time since 2005. The star guard averaged 25 points, 6.1 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per game, while also notching his first All-Star appearance.

The Kings and Warriors will face each other for the first time since last year’s playoffs on Friday, Oct. 27.

Did Jada Pinkett Smith Have A ‘Fix My Life’ Moment With Iyanla?

Actress Jada Pinkett Smith sat down with Iyanla Vanzant on her podcast, The R Spot, to talk about “feeling Worthy.”

Pinkett Smith, who recently released her memoir, Worthy, shared a snippet of the talk with her 11.3 million followers. The two mindful women discussed the actress’ work toward becoming the “heroine of her own story.”

“You talk about woman and their worth, and you have this comment, a statement in the book that says, ‘My belief is that every woman is worthy, a walking treasure that deserves to live her life as the heroine of her story.’ You better talk to me,” laughed Vanzant as she appreciated the words.

“You know being the heroine of my own story was me coming to terms with every aspect of it,” Pinkett Smith said. “Coming to terms with my light and my shadow. I was just as much afraid of my light as I was of my shadow, to be honest. And realizing that it is my relationship with myself and the great supreme that is the most important, and was the thing that had been missing all along.“

Pinkett Smith, 52, has been busy promoting Worthy, which has revealed deeper insight into not only her relationship with herself, but husband Will Smith. The actress recently revealed that she and Smith had been separated for six years, but the couple has been a tight unit with their family as she shares her book with the world.

The Red Table Talk host expressed pride in the work that she has put in making herself first and to build a deeper understanding of who she is.

“Once I really put that focus in on developing an intimate relationship with myself and the great supreme is when I really got to see my life move in the direction that I wanted it to move in,” she said. “And realized that is me contacting the heroine within myself, to take the power of my life back.”

Pinkett Smith’s episode of The R Spot is available now through Shondalandaudio and iHeartPodcasts.

Dusty Baker, Houston Astro

Houston Astros Dusty Baker Retires After 26 Years Of Being A Manager

A legendary baseball manager has decided to hang up his cleats after 26 seasons in Major League Baseball.

According to MLB.com, Dusty Baker, the former manager of the Houston Astros, is leaving the game he has lived and loved. One year removed from taking his players to the 2022 World Series championship, the 74-year-old legend, who has been involved with the game of baseball for over 50 years, will no longer make his way to the dugouts of any more stadiums. Although he is retiring as a manager, he has left open the possibility of returning to the league in another capacity.

Baker came out of retirement in 2020 and managed to get the Astros to two World Series, winning the title last year. He mentioned that he intends to return to California to spend time with his family.

He announced the news at Minute Maid Park stadium on Thursday. He spoke about how quickly the past four years have gone by with him donning the Astros uniform.

“It was probably the quickest four years I’ve ever spent in my life,” said Baker. “But that’s what happens when you win. … They were winning when I got here, winning while I was here and I wish them well.”

In those four years that went so quickly, Baker took the team to the ALCS (American League Championship Series) four straight years while winning three consecutive AL West division titles (2021-23), two AL pennants (2021-22), and one World Series (2022). Quite a feat for the man who became the oldest manager to win a World Series.

During his time with the Astros, Baker led the team to 320 wins, including in 2020, when the pandemic shortened the regular 82-game season to 60. After that season, the Astros averaged 97 wins over the next three years. Although they came out on top of the American League West on the final game this past season with a 90-72 record, they ended their chances to repeat as champions when they lost to the Texas Rangers in seven games.

As a manager, Baker won division titles with five different teams (the Chicago Cubs, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Washington Nationals), and two of those teams took the pennant. The San Francisco Giants took the National League pennant in 2002, and the Astros did the same in the American League in 2021-22.

Before becoming a manager, he played 19 years with the Atlanta Braves, the Los Angeles Dodgers (won the 1981 World Series), the Giants, and the Oakland As.

Tasha K, Cardi B

Gossip Blogger Tasha K Reaches Out To Cardi B Following Rapper’s Troubling Tweets About Online Bullying

Tasha K is trying to get on the road of redemption with Cardi B. The infamous blogger shared a video supporting the rapper after online bullying went too far.

Tasha posted the lengthy video to her personal Instagram after Cardi B shared alarming tweets on Oct. 17, threatening suicide after trolls got the best of the Bronx native. The NeighborhoodTalk reposted the clip to its followers.

“When I hit her today, this is what I said to her,” she began in the vulnerable clip. “And I will say this to the WInos, please put your sh-t to the side because you don’t understand. We have more mass shootings by kids, [and] kids are being influenced by these caricatures online. And I know Cardi understands that a lot of the brand was a caricature.”

She continued her message to her fans, championing her characters as a good parent to her two children, Kulture and Wave, whom she shares with her husband, Migos rapper Offset.

“Who she is, is not that, that’s not the woman who parents her children. That caricature of a brand that she has is not the woman that parents those kids. You can tell a lot about a person by how they parent [their] kids.”

Tasha K acknowledged how she was “humbled” by the lawsuits against her that have her owing massive checks to Cardi.

“I asked her, and I sent her those messages…I’ve started this platform to keep people out of depression, and i misused it a lot. And I had to go through what I went through by being stropped down, humbled, and f-king corrected in front of the world.”

She then proceeded to read verbatim her messages to the 31-year-old after the “I like it” rapper wrote alarming posts about herself and her mental state. She then mentioned how her filing for bankruptcy is helpful despite it not getting her out of owing $4 million to the Grammy winner.

“Cardi, if you put a bullet in your head, who is going to teach me to be a better person? Please stop posting stuff like this; I’m going to pay you, fyi. I just can’t afford the four million. When preparing for when we get the millions. . I’m glad the bankruptcy court is scrutinizing every single thing…A Bankruptcy lawyer takes what is destroyed and rebuilds it.”

She ended the message by sharing with her fanbase that she admittedly loves Cardi and is expected to continue in the case against her trespasses against her.

“Too many kids love you to be reading sh-t like this that you are posting. But believe it or not, Becaliz, and I really had to put my ego aside to say this… “‘Cardi I love you.’ That was the hardest thing for me to say to her, but it’s true. ‘For leveling me up mentally and for teaching me how to not misuse the gift God gave me, that people thank me for. Now, see you in court.’”

Viral Cheesecake Factory Date Debate Makes It To ‘The View’, Sunny Hostin Admits ‘I Go There Every Week’

Viral Cheesecake Factory Date Debate Makes It To ‘The View’, Sunny Hostin Admits ‘I Go There Every Week’

The viral Cheesecake Factory date debate that has made its rounds on social media landed a spot on ABC’s daytime talk show The View and received support from co-host Sunny Hostin, who admitted she visits the restaurant chain “every week,” PEOPLE reports.

The conversation was part of the show’s “Hot Topics” segment on Wednesday, Oct. 25, and featured passionate commentary from Hostin and co-host Sara Haines. “I want to stand up for The Cheesecake Factory ’cause I go there every week,” Hostin said. “Sara and I agree that they make the best dirty martini.”

The 55-year-old host explained that her 17-year-old daughter, Paloma, has “ACT Prep, and there’s a Cheesecake Factory five minutes away” as the reason for her frequent visits. Haines agreed with Hostin’s praise for the popular chain, saying she has a “very nice time” at the Cheesecake Factory, where “everybody’s lovely.”

A TikTok video uploaded by user @moniquelsantos09 was the impetus for the segment. The video has made its rounds on social media, sparking endless debate about which restaurants are appropriate for a first date. It would later be revealed that the woman, identified as Alicia, was late for the original plans, which caused her to date to come up with an alternative.

“This is a nice guy. He was trying his best,” The View longtime host Joy Behar said. “Also, she made him wait an hour. He had a reservation at a better place, but he had to cancel it because she made him wait. So that’s why she went to The Cheesecake Factory — which, by the way, is a very fun restaurant with good food!”

The popular chain has enjoyed a week of free promo due to the viral video, as social media users and celebrities have also come to its defense. “I’m going to Cheesecake Factory tonight,” said rap legend LL Cool J. “All this chatter, now I can’t wait to go to Cheesecake Factory. I’m gone hit the lunch special as soon as I get the time,” said another X user.

Even popular sports pundit Stephen A. Smith took time to address the debacle on his show, saying, “First of all, what the hell is wrong with Cheesecake Factory? Ain’t nothing wrong with Cheesecake Factory.”

Other restaurants listed as “unsuitable” for a first date options include Buffalo Wild Wings, Chili’s, Applebees, IHOP, Denny’s, Olive Garden, Wingstop, and Red Lobster. Social media teams for many companies have taken the opportunity to post hilarious clapbacks to the viral shade.

“[Red flag] if she doesn’t like wings, beer, and sports,” said the X account of Buffalo Wild Wings.

Pro-Palestinian Protest, Florida ban

Ron DeSantis Orders Florida State Universities To Deactivate Pro-Palestinian Student Groups

Florida’s governor and presidential candidate Ron DeSantis has ordered state universities to deactivate campus groups with ties to the national Students for Justice in Palestine organization, Politico reports.

DeSantis allegedly sent a memo out to the university system chancellor on Oct. 24, issuing a “crackdown” on campus events led by the pro-Palestinian organization that the DeSantis administration describes as “harmful support for terrorist groups” similar to Hamas.

“Based on the National SJP’s support of terrorism, in consultation with Governor DeSantis, the student chapters must be deactivated,” Ray Rodrigues, state university system Chancellor, wrote. DeSantis has publicly supported Israel, which was attacked in early October 2023 during the ongoing war and has been keeping a close eye on pro-Palestine college protests since.

According to Rodrigues, at least two Students for Justice in Palestine chapters at unidentified Florida universities are facing cancellation; however, both the University of Florida and The University of South Florida appear to have active chapters.

Florida cites a toolkit published by the national organization as an impetus to target the groups. The system chancellor got a hold of part of the kit that labeled the attack, known as “Operation Al-Aqsa Flood,” as “the resistance” and claimed that “Palestinian students in exile are PART of this movement and not in solidarity with the movement.” After linking the document to Florida branches, the state claims the groups are violating state law, making it a felony to “knowingly provide material support … to a designated foreign terrorist organization.”

The new push comes after fellow Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy criticized the governor’s decision to disband the student chapters, claiming it was an attempt to silence their freedom of speech, which wouldn’t solve any problems, according to The Hill. “My view is that the answer to bad speech is not less speech, it is more speech. And I think it is wrong for us to silence those we disagree with,” Ramaswamy said.

“I don’t think that’s the American way. I don’t think that’s productive, and I don’t think we convince any of those people by browbeating them into submission through fear either.”

Nicki Minaj Bussed Down A Billion Views On YouTube—Twice

Nicki Minaj is setting new records in her discography. The rapper is the first woman in her genre to have two solo songs surpass 1 billion views on YouTube.

The accolades are for her hit singles, 2010’s “Super Bass” and 2014’s “Anaconda.” Chart Data confirmed the news on Twitter/X.

Since her publishing of both songs, they have mustered over 1 billion views each on the video streaming platform, with Anaconda currently in the lead with 1.1 billion. Both songs and their accompanying visuals were tremendously impactful to the star, as both are among the Queens native’s highest charting singles as well. “Super Bass” rose to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has gained a diamond certification.

“Anaconda” made headlines on its own for its provocative content featuring the artist’s backside up close and personal. The song, which sampled the 1992 track “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix-a-Lot, peaked at #2 on the charts. On the day of the video’s release, the accompanying visual broke Vevo’s streaming record by gaining 19.6 million views on in its first day.
