Niko McKnight, Estranged Son Of Brian McKnight, Dies Of Cancer At 32

Niko McKnight, the 32-year-old estranged son of '90s R&B icon Brian McKnight, died on May 29 after a lengthy battle with cancer

Niko McKnight, the 32-year-old estranged son of ’90s R&B icon Brian McKnight, died on May 29 after a lengthy battle with cancer, according to a statement his mother, singer and photographer Julie McKnight, released on social media.

McKnight wrote in her statement, “Nikolas was a cherished husband, son, brother, grandson, uncle, and nephew whose warmth, laughter, and love touched the lives of all who knew him. Nikolas was a self taught artist of music and photography. His passing is an immeasurable loss to his family and all those who held him dear.”

Julie McKnight also requested that the public give the family “privacy and continued prayers” before concluding, “Mama Bear and the entire family appreciate the outpouring of love and support from friends, fans, and the public,” Billboard reports.

Ahead of the release of the statement, Claude McKnight, Niko’s uncle and the lead singer of the a cappella group Take 6, said in a video posted to TikTok that his nephew had been “bravely battling cancer for the past two years or so.”

“Niko was one of those amazing kids — quirky and curious and ridiculously talented,” Claude continued. “Amazing singer, amazing guitar player. Had a great eye as a photographer. And one of those kids, at least in my estimation, that you always wanted to be around, and so it really sucks that he’s no longer with us.”

Per a report from People Magazine, Claude also briefly addressed the relationship between Niko and his father in the video, but distanced himself from it.

“So here’s the thing. I don’t know exactly what was going on there. I know what I’ve seen. I know what I’ve heard from all parties involved, and I try not to judge,” he said in the video. “I just try to be as loving to each person as I can be because apparently there’s so much hurt going on — or was so much hurt going on that a lot of things didn’t get resolved.”

Claude concluded, “I may have contributed to what happened with him. What I do know is he’s out of pain now. So I can rejoice in the fact that he no longer has to go through chemo and the radiation and everything else. I just want to uplift that young man and say we will see him again one day. I love you, Niko.”

Brian McKnight, Niko’s father, has yet to comment on the death of his son, after he seemingly disowned Niko, Brianna, Clyde, and Brian McKnight Jr. on social media after he married his new wife, Leliani, calling them all “products of sin.”

Furthermore, in April 2024, McKnight claimed that Julie made him stop contributing to Niko’s cancer treatments, which she called “a false narrative.”

At the time, Niko took his mother’s side, commenting via an update to his Twitter account that all he wanted was for his father to tell him without preconditions that he loved him.

“When I was about to die in the hospital from complications from my cancer, I just wanted to bury the hatchet and hear him say he loves me and he told me he couldn’t arbitrarily tell me he loves me. Still cuts so deep,” Niko wrote.

Niko McKnight is survived by his parents, wife, siblings, and extended family members.

Clark Atlanta Breaks Ground On First New Building In 20 Years

University President George French Jr. said, 'We are ready to go.'

Nearly three years ago, the Board of Trustees of Clark Atlanta University (CAU) announced that the institution would construct three new campus facilities, including a new student success centerWSB-TV recently reported that construction on the student center has officially started. It’s the first new construction in 20 years.

The school announced that the groundbreaking ceremony was taking place May 15, and according to University President George French Jr., “We are ready to go.” When the announcement took place in October 2023, the school stated that the new center would help streamline resources and programs to support the success of the attending students.

The planned center will be available to house school advisors and tutors, and will have programs that will help students with their study methods and show them skills to navigate campus life. French hopes it will help to balance the quantity and quality for students. The excitement for the construction of the center adds to the fact that it’s been over two decades since something was built on the Clark Atlanta University campus.

“It’s been over 20 years since we had construction on the campus. We’re super, super excited,” French said.

The cost of the project is $12 million and is expected to be completed in time for the students to utilize it by the fall of 2026.

With the new building and the school’s reputation, French mentioned that there were 48,000 applicants for the 1,200 spots available this year.

“Those 48,000 students had an average—those admitted—GPA of 3.71. Hence, we had to have student services like this for them,” French said. It’s a record number of applications.

Clark Atlanta University, a private, historically Black university in Atlanta, was established in 1988 when two separate institutions, Clark College and Atlanta University, merged into CAU. Students who attend the school work toward obtaining undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional degrees.

U.S. Shuts Down Job Corps Program Amid $213M Projected Deficits—But Critics Say Real Cost Is To Disadvantage Youth

Job Corps is ending due to DOGE Transparency report.

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) has announced the end of the Job Corps Program.

The shutdown is credited to reported financial deficits and underwhelming student outcomes. An audit of the program revealed financial deficits of $140 million in 2024, with projections reaching $213 million by 2025. Also, less than half, 38.6%, of enrollees graduate, though representatives for the program say the report lacks context.

Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer stated that the agency would support facilities in transitioning participants out. The sudden announcement presents logistical challenges as the program pays for travel and lodging. Chavez-DeRemer says the department will evaluate the program’s future with no guarantees of its return, The Hill reported.

“We remain committed to ensuring all participants are supported through this transition and connected with the resources they need to succeed as we evaluate the program’s possibilities.”

Currently, the reported cost per student, $155,600, exceeds the cost of attending a four-year college or university. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer acknowledged the program’s original intent to help young adults build better lives.

However, she stated that a “startling number of serious incident reports and our in-depth fiscal analysis reveal the program is no longer achieving the intended outcomes that students deserve.”

The DOL stated that the program will begin transitioning immediately with a full “cessation” by June 30. According to the DOL website, efforts to close the facilities began in early April 2025. The government organization halted new enrollment at the Penobscot Job Corps Center in Maine.

Many lawmakers have taken exception to the decision. As Congress has set aside funds for the program, some believe the move is an overreach by the Trump administration.

On May 31, Wisconsin Sen. Tammy Baldwin said as much in a statement: “Congress appropriated funding for Job Corps, and the Trump Administration can’t just decide to not spend it because they want to make room for tax cuts for billionaires.”

Baldwin also stressed the benefit of Job Corps and its students to the Wisconsin economy.

“Wisconsin is a state that makes things, but without a skilled workforce, our state risks losing that vital part of our identity and economy. Job training programs like Job Corps are a proven way to connect more Wisconsinites with careers that in turn fuel our economy.”

Politicians and states may be concerned about the state of the economy. Yet, there is a greater concern. The Job Corps program was established in 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson. The then-president presented the initiative to curb the rising poverty rates and address homelessness. Hoping to increase job prospects for young adults aged 16 to 24.

The National Job Corps association estimates, “4,500 of [current] students were homeless before joining the Job Corps. This presents a problem as programs nationwide seek to transition students out.

According to the National Job Corps Association, the report used to justify the program’s cessation lacks context and is unreliable.

The “transparency report,” which was developed by a DOGE staffer, examines a year when Department of Labor rules related to the COVID-19 pandemic limited enrollments, allegedly to falsely assert that the program has grown too expensive. In reality, the budget for Job Corps campus operations has not been increased for eight years, despite inflation.

Zion Williamson Accused Of Rape, Domestic Violence In Lawsuit; NBA Star Denies Allegations

The lawsuit was filed by an unnamed woman who dated Williamson starting when he was a freshman at Duke University in 2018.

New Orleans Pelicans star forward Zion Williamson is accused of rape and domestic violence in a lawsuit filed in the late hours of May 29 in Los Angeles Superior Court by an unnamed woman who dated Williamson starting when he was a freshman at Duke University in 2018.

According to The Athletic, the woman, who filed as a Jane Doe, alleges that Williamson repeatedly hit and kicked her, repeatedly raped her, and made her fear for her life several times before the relationship eventually ended in 2023.

She also alleged in the lawsuit that Williamson engaged in a pattern of “abusive, controlling, and threatening behavior.” The woman is seeking an unspecified amount of damages from Williamson.

ESPN also reported that the 12-page civil complaint describes incidents in multiple states, including California and Louisiana, and describes accusations of strangulation carried out “with such force that she reasonably feared for her life and eventually lost consciousness multiple times.”

Williamson issued a denial of the allegations through his attorneys, Barrasso Usdin Kupperman Freeman & Sarver, L.L.C., who also called into question the nature of their relationship, calling it a consensual and casual relationship.

“We take these allegations with the utmost seriousness, and we unequivocally deny them. The allegations contained in the complaint are categorically false and reckless….This appears to be an attempt to exploit a professional athlete driven by a financial motive rather than any legitimate grievance,” his attorneys maintained in a statement.

They also indicated that they believe the lawsuit is part of a plot to extort Williamson, saying in the statement that they have “reported the plaintiff’s extortion attempts to law enforcement” and indicating that Williamson “intends to file counterclaims and seek significant damages for this defamatory lawsuit.”

The attorneys, however, did not respond to a request from The Athletic to give more information about their communications with law enforcement.

Per Sam Taylor, a lawyer for Jane Doe, the response from Williamson’s attorneys contained “numerous misrepresentations” and refuted the characterization of the lawsuit as an extortion attempt.

Taylor also told the outlet that his client and Williamson had previously attempted a formal mediation ahead of the lawsuit’s filing, but were unable to agree to terms.

“This is a very serious case as reflected in the allegations in the complaint, which are pretty detailed. We look forward to the day that our client can get this case to trial and let a jury decide who is credible and who is not credible. This is a major undertaking. She knew what he was going to say about her,” Taylor told The Athletic.

According to the lawsuit, after Williamson was drafted No. 1 overall by the Pelicans in 2019, he raped her in September 2020 after he moved to Beverly Hills, California.

Per the complaint, his driver picked her up at a hotel and drove her to his home, and when Williamson arrived that night, he told her she couldn’t go to sleep unless he had sex with her first.

After she refused, Williamson allegedly pinned Jane Doe down and raped her, which she said he repeated several weeks later.

According to the lawsuit, the physical and sexual abuse continued through 2023, and he allegedly threatened to leak nude videos and photos he had taken of the woman without her consent to keep her in the relationship.

Per the lawsuit, the woman suffered “severe emotional distress, anxiety, depression, humiliation, loss of sleep, and other physical and emotional injuries” because of the actions of Williamson, which Taylor says led her to seek counseling since the termination of their relationship.

Despite the serious nature of the allegations, Williamson’s attorneys remained confident, asserting in their statement that their client would be vindicated.

“While these allegations are false, we recognize the seriousness of the claims and welcome the opportunity to prove the truth in court. We are confident that the legal process will expose the truth and fully vindicate Mr. Williamson,” they stated.

Lamar Odom Kicked Out Of L.A. Rental Property For Non-Payment Of Rent

The 45-year-old former NBA player and reality TV star allegedly owed $45,000.

Former Los Angeles Lakers champion Lamar Odom has been kicked out of a Los Angeles property after the landlord alleges he owed rent on the unit.

According to The New York Post, the 45-year-old reality TV star allegedly owed $45,000 based on a lawsuit filed by the property’s landlord. A court ordered Odom to vacate the property on April 28 after Executive Recovery Group, Inc. filed the legal paperwork in March. The former basketball player did not respond to the lawsuit, so the company was awarded possession of the home and ordered Odom to vacate the premises.

He signed a contract to lease the residence for $15,000 a month around Dec. 15, 2024. The company stated it was an oral agreement for a month-to-month tenancy at the rental property. Payment was due on the first of the month, yet Odom never made a payment between January and March 2025. After not receiving any payment, the sub-lessor of the property claimed Odom was given several notices, including a three-day notice posted on the property on March 11, requesting that he pay the arrears or vacate the home.

“If you fail to perform or otherwise comply, Landlord declares the forfeiture of the lease or rental agreement under which you occupy said premises,” the notice stated, which was also mailed to the former “Khloé & Lamar” reality TV personality.

“At the time the three-day notice to pay rent or quit was served, the amount of rent due was $45,000,” the lawsuit stated.

Earlier this month, Odom appeared at a black-tie dinner hosted by President Donald Trump for investors of his cryptocurrency coin, which took place at Trump National Golf Club in Virginia. When he showed up, people who were protesting were heard booing and chanting “shame” upon his arrival.

Trump invited the top 220 investors of the meme coin, $TRUMP, to the dinner for an exclusive sit-down with the President of the United States.

Kenya Moore’s Ex-Husband Closes Brooklyn Restaurant After 15 Years

Kenya Moore's ex-husband Marc Daly quietly closed down his Brooklyn restuarant in December.

Rumors of Kenya Moore’s hair salon being abandoned have put new eyes on her ex-husband’s shuttered restaurant in Brooklyn, New York.

Marc Daly, the ex-husband of Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kenya Moore, announced the closure of his restaurant, Soco Brooklyn, last December after 15 years in business. But, new photos obtained by The Sun show the now-closed restaurant with a large “FOR LEASE” sign displayed out front and an empty, lifeless interior.

When announcing the restaurant’s closure, Daly expressed gratitude to the Brooklyn community for their years of support and hinted at a new media venture he plans to launch in the South.

“It is with a full heart that I announce the closure of Soco. Aft weer 15 years of serving our wonderful community, it’s time for me to explore a new adventure in media, so I move onward and upward,” Daly wrote at the time.

“Thank you for being a part of Soco’s NYC story. I will carry the spirit of Brooklyn with me as I focus on my new venture in the South,” he added.

Daly’s life in NYC was an issue in his marriage with Moore, as she spoke openly about the divide caused by their long-distance relationship despite being married and having a daughter, Brooklyn Daly.

“Marc opened up two new businesses and is opening up another. It was frustrating for me that he kept opening businesses in New York, but listen, I want him to be successful, and that’s how he feeds his family. So, I couldn’t be selfish,” Moore said in 2019.

“But if you’re living in two different places, you have to be together during the times you are in the same place; either you’re both in New York and you’re both in Atlanta.

“And when we’d be in the same place, we weren’t always in the same place. So with the businesses, the distance, and the baby, it just became hard for us to figure it all out.”

In addition to photos of Daly’s closed restaurant, The Sun also published photos of Moore’s recently launched hair spa in Atlanta, appearing inactive. Between April 30 and May 1, no one was seen entering or leaving the salon despite signage indicating it was open to clients and the public. In response, Moore released a statement asserting the spa is “open and servicing clients when we are open.”

Bullied For Sipping Matcha, These NYC Students Sparked A Viral Movement Of ‘Black Boy Joy’

The group has now posted videos showing them do activities such as puppy yoga, dance classes, and even Pilates.

Khadim Thiam, 23, and nine other Black New York City college students unexpectedly went viral on TikTok when he posted a video of himself and his friends at a Dunkin Donuts smiling and toasting each other after they ordered matcha green tea for the first time.

According to NBC News, the video, which is 19 seconds long, has been watched by more than 15 million people since it first appeared in early April, but instead of finding a receptive audience, Thiam told the outlet that they found negativity.

“They were saying things like, ‘Oh, why are men this happy to try matcha?’ ‘Oh, men should be in war,’” Thiam recalled.

He continued, “I don’t know why the internet reacted like that. So now I was like, O.K., so y’all don’t want to see us try matcha? We’re going to start trying many other things.”

True to his word, Thiam’s group, One Strong Brotherhood, or OSB for short, has now posted more than 20 videos showing the group doing various activities such as puppy yoga, dance classes, and even Pilates.

According to Danielle Young, who is credited with creating the term “Black Boy Joy,” in 2016 while writing for The Root, OSB’s social media activities are rooted in the memory of Black boys who never got to become Black men, Black boys like Emmett Till, who was lynched in 1955 at the age of 14 by a group of white supremacists in Mississippi.

“It’s so hard to see the OSB guys and not be immediately happy, joyfully, and smiling,” Young told NBC News. “Thinking of Emmett Till and his story, not even being able to be a young, free Black boy without society claiming him as a threat and needing to be murdered for that. It’s beautiful to see that Black Boy Joy is timeless, but it’s also hurtful to see that it is considered a thing because of what they’re not supposed to be doing.”

Young’s last point is perhaps the most poignant for Thiam and his friends, who all attend Hunter College in Manhattan.

“There’s a lot of negative stereotypes and connotations” when it comes to young Black men, Thiam, who is a computer science major and also the son of immigrants from Senegal, told NBC News. “We deserve our credit and our place in society to be considered normal, joyful people.”

Since the original video’s somewhat frosty reception online, Thiam has noticed that the comments section has started to reflect the joyous vibes of their videos.

This was epitomized by a recent trip to a West African cooking class hosted by another New York City content creator, Maye Jolie, where they spent almost three hours learning to make a Malinese dish called nem, a meat and spice-filled fritter, which is mixed, rolled, and then fried.

“Hopefully we go global,” Thiam told the outlet, musing about “going to Japan trying to become like a samurai or something, or we’re making tea in China,” after revealing that the group has already secured five-figure brand deals and worked with DoorDash and MAC Cosmetics.

Thiam concluded, “I just want to encourage people to try new things. Meet new people, make great connections. Have genuine fun, joyness, and bring energy.”

Lester Holt Signs Off ‘NBC Nightly News’—Shifts Full Focus To ‘Dateline’

Holt has anchored "NBC Nightly News" since 2015.

Lester Holt anchored his final “NBC Nightly News” broadcast on May 30 as he shifts his full focus to NBC’s “Dateline.”

Holt, who has anchored “NBC Nightly News” since 2015 while also hosting “Dateline,” is now stepping away from the nightly broadcast to focus solely on long-form journalism, a move he says allows him to dive deeper into storytelling. He made a May 30 appearance on Today for a segment that honored his time hosting the nightly news show.

“I’ve been hosting ‘Dateline’ for many years,” Holt told Today hosts Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin, “but long form is something I really wanted to get my teeth into.”

“It’s a different set of news muscles,” he continued. “The time just seemed to be right. You know, you hit a certain age, you start thinking, ‘What’s the back part of my career going to look like?’”

NBC national correspondent Tom Llamas will take over as anchor of “NBC Nightly News” following Holt’s departure. Llamas will continue anchoring his primetime streaming show “Top Story” with Tom Llamas on “NBC News NOW” as he takes on his new role at NBC Nightly News.

Holt, who announced his exit in February, has been a steady presence in American journalism, guiding viewers through major events like the rise of Donald Trump, the COVID-19 pandemic, and conflicts in the Middle East. Since announcing his departure, Holt has shared his passion for covering news stories with depth and accuracy.

“The big buy-in was to be able to do more of the hours,” Holt told Variety earlier this month. “I once spent two nights in prison for a ‘Dateline,’ and I’ve done heartbreaking stories on the asthma crisis and the economy… but I want to do more of those.”

“I want to be able to tell a producer, ‘Yes, I’ll be there for that interview next week,’ because I won’t be jumping after whatever is happening for Nightly.”

Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence Are Now ‘In-Laws’ After Their Children Get Married

Murphy's son Eric and Lawrence's daughter Jasmin are now officially husband and wife.

Eddie Murphy revealed that he and another legendary comic, Martin Lawrence, are now officially related by marriage: Murphy’s son and Lawrence’s daughter have tied the knot.

According to People, on a recent episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show, the Coming to America actor said that his son, Eric Murphy, and Lawrence’s daughter, Jasmin Page Lawrence, have exchanged vows.

Murphy and Lawrence appeared in two movies together, 1992’s Boomerang and 1999’s Life.

Murphy said that the pair had a small ceremony about two weeks ago.

“They went off, everybody was making the big wedding plans, and then they decided they wanted to do something quiet with just the two of them,” Murphy explained to Hudson.

He added hat since they did so, that “big wedding” wouldn’t have to be paid for by his fellow entertainer, adding, “We’re in-laws.”

The two children of comedy royalty got engaged last November. They publicly professed their love for each other in 2021.

“11.27.2024
“We’re engaged!! God truly blessed us with a love that feels like destiny. We couldn’t be more excited for this next chapter ❤️❤️

“My uncle actually introduced us — it wasn’t even our dads,” Jasmin told InTouch Weekly in January 2022. “And they’ve done two movies together. They’re friends. I don’t even know, it’s crazy, but we met through my uncle and, you know, we became really good friends.”
