To honor Black History Month, Thomas A. Farrington, the president and founder of The Prostate Health Education Network (PHEN), launched a Prostate Cancer Education and Awareness campaign in partnership with National Radio Stations. Your Prostate Health Minute is a public service announcement (PSA) campaign to raise public awareness and knowledge about important prostate health topics. Farrington, a
16-year prostate cancer survivor, created the campaign to bring attention to the inhumane history of prostate cancer in black America. To help raise public awareness of this dire health issue, PHEN is encouraging all radio stations across the country to join the movement and spread the word about the campaign, available for download here.[RELATED: 4 Vital Tips on Cancer Prevention]
According to a statement released by the organization, each PSA is approximately one minute in length and highlights a specific topic while urging radio listeners to access more detailed information about that topic from PHEN’s online educational resources on its website, www.RapCancer.org.Â
“To quote Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., “Of all the forms
of inequality, injustice in healthcare is the most shocking and inhumane,'” said Farrington. Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer for all men. “This could be your father, brother, grandfather, friend … or even you. But most alarming–black men die at a rate more than twice that of all other men, and this injustice must be eliminated,†Farrington says in the PSA.The campaign is set to air on radio stations around the country this month.
