On Monday, thousands of New Yorker City residents got their first rides on the city’s newest form of public transit. The program, called Citi Bike, debuted with 6,000 bikes spread around at 300 stations. That number will be expanded to 10,000 bikes at 600 places throughout the city.

How long can the bikes be used?

Riders can take them for 45 minutes and return them to any rack around the city. “Fifteen thousand bikers are signed up for New York’s program,” Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Kahn told the AP.
