On Friday, Nissan made the announcement that they were donating $250,000 to six Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to promote their science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs.
Nissan executives along with Dem U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson presented the grant to Alcorn State University, Coahoma Community College, Jackson State University, Mississippi Valley State University, Rust College and Tougaloo College.
“I am very proud of the work our HBCUs are doing to develop the scientists, engineers and innovators of tomorrow,” HBCU Buzz reports Thompson saying.

Nissan’s latest donation is not the first time that the auto company has made an investment into the well-being
of HBCUs. In March 2013, Nissan gave two robots to Alcorn State University’s Advanced Technologies Program, which allowed students to have a first-hand experience at working with the technology used in manufacturing facilities.“These six institutions have a rich
history of continuously advancing their programs to enhance their student’s educational experience,” said Jeffrey Webster, Nissan’s director of diversity and inclusion. “This contribution continues Nissan’s commitment to HBCUs and to diversity, education and service in our community.”
