E! News host Nina Parker has just made history after getting her plus-size clothing line on display at Macy’s.
After designing her own looks for the 2020 Oscars and the 2021 Golden Globes, Parker is set to debut The Nina Parker Collection for Macy’s next month, E! News reports. The line is the department store’s first time ever displaying a plus-size line created by a Black woman.
“I was tired of trying to make things work,” Parker said. “I was tired of trying to make a square peg fit into a circle. So, I was like, ‘Let me create my own circle.'”
With her career as a TV correspondent,
Parker is often in the public eye and found it challenging to find clothing that accentuated her figure. “My stylist and I were trying to find stuff off of the rack and it just wasn’t comparable to my counterparts,” Nina said. “It felt really unfair, like, ‘Yes, I am bigger than them, but does that mean I don’t matter as much because my waist is bigger?'”She also noted the lack of desirable fashion options for full-figured women. “With plus sizes, it’s like they want us to hide,” the Nightly Pop
host explained. “They’re matronly, something my aunties might wear. I’m like, ‘I don’t understand why big has to mean conservative.'”With her 17-pieces ranging in sizes from size 16W to 24W, Parker hopes to help curvy women show off their vibrant flair through fashion. “I want them to feel bossy, like they can walk in a room and everybody will take notice.”
The affordability of the line ranges from $39 – $129 and includes tank tops, dresses, and denim that feature bold prints, fun fabrics, and of course sequins to shine bright. “If the quality of the fabric wasn’t up to par, I wasn’t doing it,” Parker declared.
Also, buyers can expect to see the collection displayed front and center in Macy’s, unlike the placements many plus-size sections have in retail stores. “Sometimes you feel like you’re getting a drug deal,” Parker jokingly said. “It’s like, ‘Why do we have to feel like we’re being alienated because of our size?”’
The Nina Parker Collection will be available in Macy’s department stores and online on May 14.
