The daytime talk show, titled Nick Cannon, is back on with Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury, who will distribute the show, with Fox Television Stations serving as the lead affiliate group.

“It’s been a

longtime dream of mine to host my own daytime talk show and that I’m able to do this in New York City, bringing daytime television back to the place that has fostered generations of talent, is very special to me. With this show, we’ll be uniting all aspects of entertainment in a unique way in the very place where a lot of what we know today as our culture started.” Cannon said in a written statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “I couldn’t ask for better partners than Debmar-Mercury and Fox and thank them for supporting me in this endeavor.”

“We, along with our many other strong broadcast partners, are excited to be able to bring Nick’s unique, light-hearted and entertaining style to the daytime audience starting this fall,” Debmar-Mercury co-presidents Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus said in a statement.

After controversial statements made last year while interviewing former Public Enemy member Richard “Professor Griff” Griffin on his podcast, Cannon’s show had been put on the back burner.

Back in July 2020, Cannon had been heavily criticized for statements he made during the June 30 episode of his podcast, Cannon’s Class.

The discussion between Cannon and Professor Griff was immersed in what had been described as “anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and anti-Jewish rhetoric.” Professor Griff was kicked out of Public Enemy in 1989, because he was accused of making anti-Semitic comments during an interview with the Washington Post.

Cannon said in the interview that “it’s never hate speech; you can’t be anti-Semitic when we are the Semitic people. When we are the same people who they want to be. That’s our birthright.” He also stated that “we are the true Hebrews.”

At that point, ViacomCBS had chosen to terminate Cannon after the entertainer was blasted for those comments, but after apologizing and making amends, he has revived his relationship with ViacomCBS.
