After NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell testified during Ray Rice’s appeal, the former Baltimore Ravens running back has won his reinstatement back to the National Football League.
According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Rice’s indefinite suspension has been removed, which allows him to sign with any NFL team. Originally, Rice was suspended indefinitely back in September for violating the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy after TMZ released a full video of Rice hitting his then-fiancée, Janay Palmer.
Rice’s appeal of his indefinite suspension was heard by U.S. District Judge Barbara S. Jones earlier this month, Ozzie Newsome, the Baltimore Ravens’ general manager, testified under oath Nov. 6 that he heard Rice tell Goodell during his June 16 disciplinary hearing that he had “hit his then-fiancée in a casino hotel elevator,” sources told Outside the Lines. Ray Rice, as well as his wife, Janay, testified and details from the conversation have not been released due to a gag order imposed by Judge Jones.
The 27-year-old footballer is a three-time Pro Bowler and helped the Baltimore Ravens win Super Bowl XLVII. He rushed for 6,180 yards and 37 touchdowns in six seasons with Baltimore.
