NFL Considers Tougher Penalties for Domestic Violence

According to The Washington Post, the National Football League is considering setting stricter penalties for players who are accused of committing domestic violence. This stems from the criticism of the recent two-game suspension given to Baltimore Ravens’ Ray Rice after his domestic abuse case.

“We need to have stricter penalties,” said one person

with knowledge of the league’s deliberations on the matter. “I think you will see that. I believe the commissioner and others would like to see stricter penalties. We need to be more vigilant.”

Although no final decision has been made, an anonymous source states that the prospective new policy could establish guidelines for a suspension of four to six games without pay for a first offense. A second offense could result in a potentially season-long suspension.
