Netflix has just announced a new plan that will make life a whole lot easier for new parents. In a statement released Tuesday, the tech company revealed an update to its leave policy that will grant unlimited maternal and paternal leave with full pay up to a year for parents who have just given birth or adopted a child.
“We want employees to have the flexibility and confidence to balance the needs of their growing families without worrying about work or finances,” said Netflix Chief Talent Officer, Tawni Cranz, in a statement.

Under this new policy, employees will be able to return to the office part-time or full-time during their first year of parenting with the option to leave whenever they feel necessary. The company’s latest change is in addition to their unlimited time-off policy, with Cranz saying “experience shows people perform better at work when they’re not worrying about home.”
“This new policy, combined with our unlimited time off, allows employees to be supported during the changes in their lives and return to work more focused and dedicated,” Cranz added.
With studies showing that professionals have a greater desire for work-life balance, Netflix is adding its name to the list of top companies who are enforcing policies that will help attract and retain the best talent.
In 2013, Yahoo doubled its maternity and paternity leave policy, and in 2014 Facebook and Apple took a bold step in attracting female talent when they announced they would help in covering the cost for employees to freeze their eggs.
