New York City’s Technology & Telecommunications division will hold a citywide job fair on August 1.
Hiring managers will be on-site to discuss employment opportunities from a number of city agencies, including the NYC Department of Finance, Environmental Protection, the Fire Department, the Department of Sanitation, and more.
Some of the most needed tech positions in the city are for project managers, IT risk managers, data analytics experts, and UX designers.
The City of New York is also filling technology leadership roles, including a chief information officer of city planning and a director of special products for tech and innovation.
Meanwhile, other tech employment opportunities are available through other divisions of the city government: the Health & Hospitals Corporation (HHC), the School Construction Authority (SCA), and the New York County District Attorney (DANY).
The city offers a few helpful hints to prepare for attendance at the job fair:
- Do your research about the organization and which positions you’re interested in, prior to the Career Fair.
- Review the job responsibilities, preferred skills and qualification requirements for the jobs that interest you.
- Create a professional résumé featuring your skills, accomplishments, strengths, and tech experience and knowledge.
- Bring a photo ID for building entry and multiple copies of your résumé.
Under Mayor Bill de Blasio, the city has announced several technology initiatives that are key in an increasingly digital, connected world. These include the conversion of largely unused pay phones into LinkNYC kiosks that provide free Wi-Fi, online access to city information, and device charging; as well as a next-generation 911 emergency system.
“LinkNYC is the Wi-Fi network New Yorkers deserve: the largest, fastest municipal Wi-Fi network in the world, and you won’t need to insert a quarter in the slot because it’s completely free,†said Mayor de Blasio upon announcing the project
“LinkNYC brings us a couple steps closer to our goal of leveling the playing field and providing every New Yorker with access to the most important tool of the 21st century.â€
The Career Fair will be held at The Kimmel Center in New York City, located at 60 Washington Square South, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Admission is free. Photo ID is required for building entry.
