Marvel fans, rejoice. You can get a first look at the new Black Panther.
Fans have been wondering what would become of the film’s leading hero following the untimely death of the original Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman, in August 2020. Now the latest trailer for the action film’s sequel gives moviegoers a glimpse of the character’s return.
On Monday, Marvel released
a new extended trailer for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ahead of the film’s November 11 release.“We know what you whisper. They have lost their protector. Now is our time to strike. Show them who we are,” Angela Bassett as Queen Ramonda says in the trailer.
At the end of the teaser, a woman with an unknown identity appears wearing a new Black Panther suit.
Returning cast members include Bassett, Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, and Winston Duke. New faces include Tenoch Heurta, as villain Namor, and Michaela Coal as Aneka.
The film will see Wakanda mourning the loss of its king, T’Challa, CNET reported. The once-isolationist nation must band together to fight to protect its supply of vibranium from Namor’s aquatic threat.
While it’s not clear who the new Black Panther will be, Shuri (played by Wright) or Nakia (played by Nyong’o) seem like the possible replacements.
Last month, Marvel studio president Kevin Feige explained why it decided not to replace Boseman so “soon” after his death.
“it just felt like it was much too soon” to recast the late actor’s character, T’Challa, Feige told
Empire magazine.“Stan Lee always said that Marvel represents the world outside your window. And we had talked about how, as extraordinary and fantastical as our characters and stories are, there’s a relatable and human element to everything we do,” Feige said.
“The world is still processing the loss of Chad. And [director] Ryan [Coogler] poured that into the story.”
Tickets for the much-anticipated sequel went on sale Monday.
