NBA Commissioner Adam Silver Praised For Ending the Season Coronavirus-Free
After LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers ended the NBA season with another championship, the attention has been turned to another form of success for the professional sports league. The NBA was the only sports league to stop its season due to the coronavirus pandemic and then restart it and complete the season with zero cases of COVID-19 from any of its players.
The initial thought of playing in the “bubble” in Orlando, Florida, caused many players to think of whether it was a good idea to be separated from the rest of society during the pandemic. Players were given the choice to opt-out or play in the restricted space. The format was altered, yet scrutinized, but, accepted by the players and teams that were eligible to qualify for the newly-formatted playoff seeds.
All the while, the climate for fighting police brutality and racial injustice picked up speed directly after the police killings of several unarmed Black people. In particular, when the world saw a video of George Floyd’s life being snatched away by an unemotional police officer, Derek Chauvin as he placed the pressure of his body weight directly on the head of Floyd as he laid there and died.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is being credited for handling the concerns of the players about the fight against racial injustice as well as the fight to avoid contracting the deadly coronavirus.
Twitter took notice.

73 days since the NBA restart.
0 positive COVID cases for players/coaches in the bubble.
One of the most enjoyable Playoffs in recent memory.
The NBA & Adam Silver deserve a lot of credit for this. Proud to work in this league.

Never forget that Adam Silver navigated 2020 a hell of a lot better than our useless excuse for a POTUS.

Can we bring in Adam Silver, who at the very least knows how to keep a single workplace safe, as a caretaker president for the next few months?

Congratulations Adam Silver and the minds in the NBA that were able to put together a brilliant finish to the season in a BUBBLE in the midst of a pandemic! A model indeed

Congratulations to the Lakers and the Heat and to Adam Silver and the entire NBA staff for pulling off one of the greatest feats in sports history — finishing an NBA season in the midst of a pandemic with 3 months of virus free basketball. I didn’t think it could be done.

Adam Silver is receiving a huge amount of well-deserved praise for the NBA bubble having 0 #covid19 cases. Dr. Leroy Sims is the NBA’s medical director & did an incredible job keeping players, coaches & staff safe. Read more about my Stanford friend here: https://t.co/yhy9KTFx7L

When the pandemic began it was hard to imagine the NBA pulling off what it just did- creating a bubble that kept players, coaches and personnel Covid free, allowing the season to conclude with a captivating playoff run & providing us all with great entertainment.
