Today is National Voter Registration Day (NVRD), a time when voting advocates nationwide are taking to the streets to help people register. This summer, voting rights issues took center stage as President Obama, activists, and legislators marked the Voting Rights Act anniversary in August, highlighting the importance of ensuring states’ restrictions are not reversing progress for minorities; particularly African Americans.

For today’s events, volunteers are located at transportation hubs, retail stores, sporting events, and concerts,
and they’re using technology to help eligible voters ï¬nd registration drives nearby and register to vote online. Civil rights leaders, celebrities, legislators, and activists are on board to support spreading the word about today’s efforts to ensure any eligible U.S. citizen is knowledgeable about their voting rights and how to register.
