Super soul icon Erykah Badu is releasing an indie drama called “The Land†and has tapped hip-hop royalty Nas as executive producer. The film, which also will have a soundtrack produced by Badu, will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
The film was written by Steve Caple Jr. wrote and directed by film Lizzie Friedman. Priority Pictures is also financing the film with Charles D. King’s MACRO, marking their first project together.

All great energy around the film, which I believe will yield amazing results,†Nas told Variety .“The Land†centers on a summer coming-of-age story of four teenaged boys trying to escape the streets of Cleveland to pursue professional skateboarding. The teens end up in a dramatic experience with a local drug queen-pin, and their brotherhood bonds are tested.
Stars of the film include Moises Arias, Rafi Gavron, Michael K. Williams (“The Wire” and “Bessie,”) Kim Coates (“Sons of Anarchy”), Machine Gun Kelly, Jorge Lendeborg Jr. and Ezri Walker.
