Music Producer Metro Boomin Gifted Key To City Of St. Louis
Metro Boomin was honored by his native St. Louis with a key to the city for his philanthropic work for single moms.
Leland Tyler Wayne, professionally known as Metro Boomin, is being honored by his hometown. The music producer was granted the key to the city of St. Louis, Missouri, on Dec. 14 for his philanthropic campaign, “Single Moms Are Superheroes,” for families in need.
The honor was bestowed upon the Grammy-nominated musician by the city’s mayor, Tishaura O. Jones, as she formally named the day after Boomin, who dedicated the honor to his late mother. However, another surprise included a proclamation for the Leslie Joanne Single Mothers and Caregivers Appreciation Day to further honor the beloved mom of five, with Boomin and his four siblings in attendance for the heartfelt occasion.
In her passing, Boomin has worked in the city to support single mothers and struggling families, further working for the cause of the day’s later event, the Leslie Joanne Soiree. The soiree was a reimagining of Boomin’s “Singles Moms Are Superheroes” holiday event, renamed for its 7th annual iteration in honor of the producer’s mother. As 250 mothers celebrated and shared their testimonies, Boomin relayed his speech to encourage and express gratitude toward the women. In a final surprise at the special occasion, Brandy appeared to perform some of her classic hits, including “Baby” and “I Wanna Be Down,” to an audience filled with fans who sang and danced along.
The event was held in partnership with Rung For Women, a nonprofit dedicated to uplifting women in personal and professional development, and Amazon Access, a program for affordable shopping that also provided the guests with totes filled with gifts. As Boomin continues his effort on behalf of his mother by supporting women with similar plights, his work for the betterment of St. Louis, alongside his artistic accomplishments, will all be part of his growing legacy.
