Mommy Bloggers: The Business of Mommy’s Behind the Computer Screen

Chances are you either are or know a mom.  Do any of them have a blog where they talk about the daily struggles, products, and challenges that being a mom entails? An estimated 3.9 million people identify themselves as “mommy bloggers,” according to one research group. Also, the average mommy blogger is 37 years old and 89% of mommy bloggers have kids between the ages of 2 and 11.

While some mothers blog as

a hobby, others have found it to be a profitable business that can pay off in the form of advertising revenue, free products and services. But many have no idea where to start, how to get setup, as well as what type of monetary investment needs to be put up.

One common misconception is that blogging is “easy.” Unfortunately, nothing could be farther than the truth. Building an audience takes a lot of work as does finding time to blog while raising a family. Being consistent and dedicated is the first needed step before launching your site. According to a 2010 Technorati survey about the state of the blogosphere, 48% of bloggers receive fewer than 1,000 unique visitors per month, and just 2% receive more than 100,000 visitors per month.
