BE Modern Man Tour Makes Mark in Atlanta

Last night, prominent black men and women gathered at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Atlanta to experience the Prudential and Hilton Worldwide sponsored BE Modern Man Tour. This tour focuses on making your mark, telling your story, and leaving your legacy as it sets out to engage successful black men by raising awareness, heightening the profile, and reinforcing the notion that it is our ordinary to be extraordinary.

Moderated by journalist Ed Gordon, the panel of entrepreneurs, political powerhouses, and agents of change held a frank conversation on planning their legacy while living their passions, developing their businesses, building wealth, and conquering their bucket lists.

The panel featured Jason Elliot, CEO, The Go Generation, Xavier Peoples, entrepreneur, and Michael T. Sterling, executive director, Atlanta Workforce Development Agency.

This was an evening for all

things hard work, finances, and fruitfulness. “Performance trumps everything; focus on performance,” encouraged Sterling. As an entrepreneur, Sterling stresses that one of the biggest obstacles when building a business is access to capital. “Develop relationships with small black-owned community banks,” he advises.

This wasn’t the only sound advice shared throughout the evening. “There is no shame in having a day job as an entrepreneur,” shared Peoples, to entrepreneurs feeling like they must give up one in order to sustain the other.

The information exchanged on the panel was timely, but imperative. Attendees were encouraged to look further into their money matters by jotting the three most important things they’ve learned about money, learning the importance of long-term financial planning, and routes to wealth.
