Megan Markle Becomes First Member Of The Royal Family To Vote In A U.S. Presidential Election

Previously, BLACK ENTERPRISE reported that actress-turned-British royal Meghan Markle was working with activist Gloria Steinem to encourage Americans to vote ahead of the presidential election. This week, it was revealed that after Markle cast her ballot, she also made history as the first modern British royal to vote in a U.S. presidential election.

The Duchess of Sussex moved back to her home state of California into a multimillion-dollar home with husband, Prince Harry

, and has been very vocal about the importance of voting for the historic election after moving away from their royal duties earlier this year. A source from Page Six says that Meghan “wouldn’t miss voting in this election no matter where she was living.” Markle also participated in National Voter Registration Day with Harry to encourage people to vote.

 

In an interview for Time 100, Markle stresses the importance of being an active participant in the election process and why is necessary to make sure every voice is heard in this campaign. “Every four years, we’re told, ‘This is the most important election of our lifetime,'” she said. “But this one is. When we vote, our values are put into action, and our voices are heard.”

Harry added that while he is unable to vote as a British royal, it is important for Americans to speak out and vote for change. “This election, I’m not going to be able to vote here in the U.S.,” he said. “But

many of you may not know that I haven’t been able to vote in the U.K. my entire life. As we approach this November, it’s vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation, and online negativity.”
