Mary J. Blige will sing the national anthem on Fox Wednesday before Game 1 of the World Series between the Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals, the network announced today.
The series opens in Boston at Fenway Park and will air at 7:30 p.m. ET.
“It is an honor to have the opportunity to perform the national anthem,”
the nine-time Grammy award winning artist said, according to USA Today. “I’ve conducted countless performances across the globe throughout my illustrious career, but performing the anthem at Yankee Stadium during the 2009 World Series was beyond a thrill, and so I’m looking forward to again being a part of baseball’s great history.”Blige recently released her first Christmas album, A Mary Christmas. Season 12 American Idol winner Candice Glover sang the national anthem on Fox’s broadcast of the All-Star game, held earlier this year at CitiField in New York City.
